Description

The Hovel Pencil Plane from Makers Cabinet is an entirely reimagined pencil sharpener, a pencil plane that allows you to whittle your pencil perfectly to any desired point. Its unique mechanism also helps to not break the lead of your pencil, unlike the commonly used sharpener, which twists and snaps graphite. Due to its solid brass body, its weight is a joy, and it gains beauty and character with age. Made from solid brass, Høvel comes with a pack of 10 carbon steel blades which allow you to:

– Make short, long or even flat points

– Sharpen soft pencils such as pastels or makeup pencils without breaking snapping your point

– Easily changeable blades

This product is sold separately to the Hovel Wooden Base. Check out our separate listing for the  “MAKERS CABINET – HOVEL PENCIL PLANE WITH WALNUT BASE” or if you would like to purchase a base later then you will find the base listed separately under   “MAKERS CABINET – HOVEL WALNUT BASE.”  For the serious collector there are various other accoutrements available to fully accessorise your Hovel and out staff love to pair them with BlackWing pencils.

We recommend purchasing this wooden base whenever you purchase this sharpener as it adds to the performance and safety of the sharpener.  The base has a dual function, as a home for your Hovel sharpener when using it to beautifully sharpen your pencils and as a chamber for shavings as you sharpen. It is the perfect, safe place to store your extremely sharp Hovel sharpener so that the blade is not exposed. Machined from dark walnut, the wooden base is the perfect companion to your Hovel and looks great on any desk.

Made from solid brass, Høvel comes with a pack of 10 carbon steel blades.

Makers Cabinet packaging is paper-based and is 100% recyclable

Makers Cabinet design, manufacture and sell beautiful drawing and writing tools that are built to last a lifetime. Their products use time honoured mechanisms and materials to create objects that wear ‘in’ rather than wearing ‘out’.

The brand’s ‘Høvel’ pencil plane enables you to whittle your pencil perfectly to any desired point. ‘Iris’ is a unique circle drawing tool inspired by camera apertures. Both products are machined from solid brass and then polished to a perfect finish. They patina with time and use; creating heirloom quality tools for creative practice.

Makers Cabinet uses crowdfunding to create the first batch of each product and once in production they are sold from their London Workshop and to specialist shops like The PaintBox.
