Koh-I-Noor Micador Brilliant Watercolour Discs are convenient, easy to use watercolour sets that can twist together to form a unique tower. The round plastic discs have a lid that doubles as a painting palette. Each disc contains six long-lasting watercolour tablets, which have deep coloured pigments, translucent colour and good tinting strength.
These sets remain a true staff favourite at The PaintBox and we use them in our beginners teaching practice as they are affordable, they build confidence and are useful in teaching paint handling and an awareness of colour. Not all of the colours are lightfast and we have included a lightfastness chart produced by the distributor. It is important to note that this Australian lightfastness chart works in exactly the opposite way to charts in the rest of the world, ie the micador chart attributes the highest number to lightfast pigments and the lowest number to fugitive pigments. These disc sets are made by Koh-I-Noor, a renowned Czech company dating from 1790 that was the precursor to Faber Castell. The discs are rebranded and repackaged into decorative cardboard boxes by an Australian Company called Micador to be sold to Australian consumers. The boxes are labelled as having been made and manufactured in Australia by Micador Australia, however the paints are made in Czechoslovakia.
