A big congratulations to Cristina M Metelli who is our first Artist In Residence at The PaintBox!
Born in Milano, Italy, Cristina Metelli studied at art school in Italy before coming to Australia. After settling in Adelaide, Cristina continued her artistic education with an Advanced Diploma from North Adelaide School of Art, majoring in sculpture. Following her desire to also pursue a painting practice, Cristina graduated in 2018 with a Bachelor Degree in Visual Art (Honours), from Adelaide Central School of Art receiving an Award for Excellence for a high-achieving student.
Cristina’s paintings, sculptures and assemblage works investigate the extent to which human lives are entwined with the natural environment, in both a physical and emotional sense. Her abstract paintings mark the space between nature and human perceptions. Through a deeply felt relationship with nature, each painting depicts a moment in time, a unique experience of the natural landscape through a sensorial and emotional response.
Cristina has exhibited in numerous group and solo exhibitions in Adelaide and interstate. She has been a finalist in The Fleurieu Biennale (Artists of the Fleurieu), the Heysen Art Prize, the Adelaide Parklands Art Prize the Emma Hack Art Prize, and numerous times for the Waterhouse Natural History Art Prize.
We are so excited to have Cristina with us and she will be giving a demonstration and a workshop which provides a wonderful pathway for exploration of oils as a medium.
