Schmincke watercolour paints, known as Horadam Aquarell Artist Watercolour are a particularly particularly harmonious, balanced and complete range. Schmincke has been developing and manufacturing its Horadam line of watercoloUrs since 1881, and the company is now owned by the fourth generation of the original family. Today the Horadam line includes 139 brilliant, intense coloUrs, 112 of them with the highest lightfastness ratings of 4 or 5 stars. 95 of the colours are formulated with a single pigment for perfect mixing results. Each coloUr has its own individually optimized formula.
Schmincke has a reputation for using only the highest-quality natural gums, water-soluble resins, and pigments. For example, the company uses only Kordofan Gum Arabic from the southern Sahara region, and distinguishes between good and bad harvests or “vintages” of this natural resin as it selects its raw materials. In order to achieve the highest standard regarding lightfastness, re-solubility and stability, Schmincke use the best raw materials available to make their Horadam Watercolours. There is no compromise in quality – the highest standards of artists’ pigments allow the highest level of lightfastness. Schmincke’s watercolour binding medium is Kordofan Gum Arabic from the Sahara region, due to it differing from year to year it is tested and the best of the batch is selected to used with their pigments.
Another quality of Schmincke’s Horadam watercolours is their re-usability. You will find the same formulation in both their tubes and pans, which means that paint which has dried onto your palette re-wets easily and can be reused.
