Description

As a varnish Shellac will dry to a hard tough film useful for floors and furniture and musical instruments. Can be used to size porous surfaces.

Shellac is produced by melting of Seedlac and converting it into flakes. It is processed and sold as dry flakes  and dissolved in ethanol to make liquid shellac, which is used as a brush-on colorant, food glaze and wood finish. Shellac functions as a tough natural primer, sanding sealant, tannin-blocker, odour-blocker, stain, and high-gloss varnish. Shellac was once used in electrical applications as it possesses good insulation qualities and it seals out moisture.

Button Shellac(button-lac), is so named because it is in the form of  buttons.  The heat during button processing polymerizes the resin, resulting in a tough abrasion & moisture resistant finishing material. Button shellacs are preferred for finishing floors, interior woodwork and by many French polishers.
