Arches Cold Pressed Watercolour Blocks are glued on all four sides to prevent the need for the paper to be stretched. The perfect travel companion for the artist or student. Made the traditional way on a cylinder mould, this paper has a harmonious natural grain with evenly distributed fibres, resulting in a stable paper. Made of long 100% cotton fibres, it can absorb a lot of water without warping or causing the colours to bleed. In a technique exclusive to Arches Watercolour paper it is sized to the core with natural gelatin, which means it can be scratched without tearing or linting. This also preserves the lustre and transparency of the colours whilst preventing paints penetrating the thickness of the paper. It is truly a unique watercolour paper that is very forgiving, allowing the superimposing of washes and successive corrections, scratching and retouching.

Arches is one of a handful of paper mills in the world to gelatin size its watercolour paper âÂÂto the coreâÂÂ. This preserves the lustre and transparency of the colours whilst preventing paints from penetrating the paper. It allows superposing of washes and gives it added strength to resist erasing and scratching without tearing or linting. It also allows paints to be removed, either wet or dry, easily revealing the whiteness of the paper.
Each 20-sheet Arches Watercolour Block is available in 3 textures: cold pressed, hot pressed and rough. Arches Watercolour blocks are made and finished at the Arches paper mill in France. The Paper is sized to the core with natural gelatin, a process almost exclusive to Arches (Masters Choice also uses this method in a very old paper mill in China, where paper was invented) that allows scratching and ensures the paints stay on the surface, thus preserving the lustre and transparency of the colours.
For optimum conservation, Arches Watercolour is treated against mould and its natural whiteness is achieved without optical brightening agents. Arches Watercolour Blocks provide a strong stable base for painting. Arches blocks are made up of multiple sheets of watercolour paper that are glued on all four sides, there will be no buckling and no need to stretch the paper prior to applying paint. Once you have completed your artwork, simply use a knife to easily remove the top sheet from the block without damaging the sheet below.
